Recently, Nebo District held a Math Olympics contest. Sage Creek hosted the competition and students from many schools participated. Our students did fabulous! In 4th grade we took the top 3 places with Vanessa Walpole in 1st place, Robert Folkman in 2nd place, and Ryan Bell and Alex Jackson tying for 3rd place. In 5th gr, Emma Croshaw took 1st place and Joshua Kent took 3rd place. In 6th gr, Wesley Walpole took 3rd place. Way to go Sage Creek Dragons!
Mr. Bowden and Ms. Scott's classes have been creating with clay! During their ancient civilizations units, they learned about the importance of pottery in the every-day lives of our ancestors. After learning how to make pinch, coil, and slab pots, the 6th graders got to make a pot of their own. After drying for several weeks and getting kiln fired at 1900 degrees, today they were ready for glazing! After one more firing, they will be ready to take home. Extra special thanks to the Springville Arts Commission for giving Ms. Scott a grant to cover the cost of clay, glaze, and brushes!
Several hundred 4th and 5th gr students throughout the district participated in the annual keyboarding competition testing students' speed, accuracy, and efficiency on a keyboard. Sage Creek students performed very well! Four of the top 15 overall were Sage Creek students - Riley Bard, Natalie Florence, Vanessa Walpole, and Easton McDonald. Also, the 2nd place overall in 5th gr was claimed by Sage Creek's Matthew Hansen. To give you perspective, the top kids overall were typing upwards of 100 words per minute with less than 5 errors. WOW!
