Submitted by diana.guinn on Tue, 10/13/2009 - 11:01

The fabulous Sage Creek PTA sponsored the annual Walk To School Day on October seventh. Students and parents were encouraged to wear green and tie green ribbons on their backpacks and jackets while they walked. Detective Dave Caron of the Springville City Police department was on hand to help students cross the street in the crosswalk, having them skip and hop to make the experience memorable and fun. The Walk To School Day is part of Safety Week and the purpose of it is to help make students and parents more aware of the safety elements involved in walking to school.

The fourth grade students in Mrs. “Graves’” class always look forward to her annual macabre art project playing on her name and celebrating Halloween. Each student creates an individual haunted house and all are displayed in the hallways to frighten all that pass by.

Students Perform Hooray

Submitted by diana.guinn on Mon, 10/12/2009 - 11:54

Under the direction of our outstanding media coordinator, Marsha Rasmussen, students at Sage Creek Elementary performed the play, Hooray for Wodney Wat by Helen Lester. These students in Mrs. Tippetts 6th grade class had a ball being the bully, Camilla Capybara, the hero, Wodney Wat and the classmates that picked on Wodney because he couldn't pronounce his r's. In the end Wodney inadvertently solves the bullying problem BECAUSE he can't pronounce his r's, and the bully stomps off into the west never to be seen again. Thanks to Mrs. Rasmussen for always making our library a fun and educational place to be.

Fire Prevention Assembly

Springville Fireman Richard Beach presented the annual Fire Prevention Assembly for all Sage Creek Elementary students this past week. Mr. Beach reminded students of the importance of having a fire evacuation plan in every home and practicing that plan. He also identified many potential fire or burn hazards that are commonly found in homes such as, unattended burning candles, space heaters too close to objects, grease fires, mircro-wave fires, and improper use of electrical cords. In summary, Mr Beach had the student council challenge the teachers in a game show format to see who could respond with the correct answers to his questions first. Students won! Sage Creek would like to express their thanks to the Springville Fire Department for all that they do to keep us safe. Special thanks to Richard Beach who makes learning about fire prevention and safety fun.
