Fourth graders from Mrs. Robbins' class at Sage Creek Elementary celebrated Dr. Suess Day by reading the Suess story “ Bartholomew and the Oobleck.”     They were amazed that the King thought that he could actually change the weather .  They decided to make their own oobleck.  Once they had seen the chemical change, and experimented with the oobleck, they concluded that oobleck was:   sticky, messy, disgusting, amazing and….. FUN!!!!

Fourth Grade Frogs

Frog jumping races were the item of the day in Mrs. Robbins fourth grade class this week.  Incorporating art  and science into their math lesson, students folded their own frogs, then took turns jumping and measuring how far they could jump.  In small groups they worked together to fin\d the average jumping distance then graphed their findings.  Measurement is an important part of the fourth grade math core.  Who knew paper frogs could be teachers too!

Mother Goose

Mrs. Beesley’s first grade class at Sage Creek Elementary held their yearly Mother Goose Poetry Day. Every year Mrs. Beesley has all the children in her first grade dress up and recite a Mother Goose Poem. The children came dressed up as characters like Little Miss Muffet, Old King Cole, Hey Diddle Diddle, Humpty Dumpty etc.

The day started off with a class parade going to other classes where those children would try to guess which Mother Goose character everyone was. Following the parade all the children took their turns standing up in front of the class to recite their poem by memory. Later that day each child was asked to write and illustrate their poem.

The children all did an incredible job, and Mrs. Beesley led the class as beloved Mother Goose. Mrs. Beesley is an amazing teacher who encourages every child to do their best and gives them the opportunity to achieve a fun and exciting challenge. The children had a memorable time taking part in their Mother Goose Day.

A Visit From China

Submitted by diana.guinn on

Sage Creek Elementary School students felt a little closer to their Chinese counterparts as Chinese students traveled around the world to meet the Sage Creek Dragons on Monday, February 6, 2012.  Under the direction of community member Ann Haupt and with the help of Clair Taylor, a member of our school community council, twelve students from a high school in Bejing included a stop at Sage Creek to perform some traditional skills in music an dance during their tour of the western United States.  The Chinese students also combined their voices with ours to sing the traditional Chinese song,  Mo Li Hua , then spent time in each classroom answering questions from our students as well as demonstrating how to write words in Chinese.    Despite the distance between us this visit helped to remind us, that we’re not really so different from one another after all. (Please remember applications (not the interest only papers) for the first grade Chinese Dual Immersion Program  2012-2013 are due February 22nd. They can be picked up in the office.)
