Ms. Shaffer Awarded Teacher of the Week!

Submitted by alison.hansen on

Every week, First Colony Mortgage spotlights a teacher who is going above and beyond for their students. Holli Tuttle nominated Ms. Claudia Shaffer, and was selected as this week's teacher of the week! Holli said, "Ms. Shaffer goes above and beyond to make sure her students love learning! She's made this week of home and online learning so much fun! From video chats with individual students, praising their efforts to keep up their educational efforts, to recorded video story time to a classroom of stuffed animals. She makes this time of uncertainty so much fun for the little people in her care, and we'd be lost without her!"  Congratulations Ms. Shaffer!

Parent information for extended [soft closure]

March 23, 2020

 Dear Parent/Guardian:

Like you, we are just learning that Governor Gary R. Herbert, State Superintendent Syd Dickson, and the Utah State Board of Education “announced today that Utah’s K-12 public schools will extend their dismissal [soft closure] through Friday, May 1st.”  Their press release further stated that they will “continue to evaluate the situation to make a determination about the remaining school year” and that:

Gov. Herbert expressed his appreciation to the educators throughout our state who have quickly adapted their instruction to remote learning platforms.

“These are unprecedented times in Utah’s and our nation’s history,” the governor said, “I have been overwhelmed with Utahns’ outpouring of support for one another, and nowhere has this been more evident than in the way our educators are supporting Utah students and families.”

Distance learning will continue during the extended dismissal for all K-12 public schools, where feasible…

“We recognize that being away from school creates additional work and stress for everyone in our communities; however, it is a necessary step in stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson. “During the uncertainties of the coming weeks, it is more important than ever to remain socially connected with our students and families while doing our best to ensure learning continues. The flexibility and initiative of our educators is a shining example of how we rise together in challenging circumstances.”

Meal services at K-12 public schools will also continue on an as-needed basis.

Nebo School District teachers and staff remain committed to providing the learning structure and support that students and parents will require during these challenging times.  Our talented and dedicated professionals are so thankful to you students and parents for your tremendous efforts regarding at-home schooling.  Please remain in communication with your child’s teachers and contact the school with questions and concerns.

We are so grateful to live in amazing communities that rally around each other in difficult circumstances and are proud to be your partners in helping your children have academic and social/emotional success.

 Sincerely,

Lana Hiskey

Community Relations Administrator
