Nate Bingham a sixth grade student at Sage Creek  was taught how to play chess two years ago by his older brother. He has worked hard each week for at least two hours to figure out his moves to be a better player. Nate says 'I love to play chess because I have nobody else to rely on but myself." Recently he brought home a big trophy from the Ogden Regional Open. He also won the Nebo Tounament last year and he is planning on a repeat this year.  Good Luck Nate!

Sage Creek Gold Medal Dragons for the week of  October 22 to October 26. Students are recognized as Gold Medal Dragons by working hard, making good choices, being kind and by doing their best. Good job this week Dragons!

On Wednesday, Oct. 10th, our students met little four-year-old Brianna from the Make-A-Wish
Foundation who suffers from leukemia and consented to be her wish granter. Sage Creek students gave
up one recess a day during Red Ribbon Week of Oct. 15-19th and instead walked for a wish. Pledges
envelopes per mile came pouring in from the students and their families. With a surprise visit from
Captain America and Superman at a celebration assembly, the students learned that their walking
efforts paid off, raising over $3,500 to grant Brianna’s wish. Throughout Red Ribbon Week, the students
decorated drug free sacks for Reams, chalked the sidewalks with drug-free messages, wore dragon red
ribbons, and walked for wishes!

Sage Creek's fifth grade had the opportunity to look at rare books and artifacts. Mrs. Tanner from the University of Utah Treasure Chest Program brought several rare books for the students to look at. The students learned when looking at artifacts white gloves must be worn to help preserve them. After looking at several artifacts, Mrs. Tanner helped the students make their own book teaching them how to sew a binding. Mrs. Tanner will return to visit the sixth and fourth grades in weeks to come.

Sage Creek Student Council members have been chosen for this school year. Students competed
in a primary event by submitting essays and teacher recommendations and then participating in a
homeroom vote. Winners participated in a campaign week. The final campaign decided class officers.
Students in 4th-6th grade voted using an on-line voting program to make their choice for student council
after watching an election campaign assembly featuring candidate speeches filmed on Ipads. The new
council is excited and eager to get to work serving the students and faculty.

Mrs. Grave's class makes haunted houses to decorate for Halloween.

Students earn Gold Medal Awards weekly by working smart, making good choices, being kind and doing thier best. Congratulations to this weeks Gold Medal Dragons!

The sixth grade students have been learning all about energy and heat transfer in science. The final
exam for these students was exciting and delicious! Students were given the assignment of making their
own solar ovens that would transform marshmallows and chocolate into a delicious treat – S’mores!
The more students had learned about heat transfer and absorption, the more efficient solar oven they
were able to create. Friday, September 28th was the perfect day to harness the Sun’s radiant heat and
cook up a science treat! It was a great day to be a scientist at Sage Creek!

September 26, 2012 was a beautiful day for hiking! Sage Creek’s 6th graders spent their day walking
the trial leading from the school up to the Rotary Park. They enjoyed the beautiful fall colors, good
company and the great school of the outdoors! It was a great day to be a dragon!
